The Colonies Become Established

William & Mary

The naming of this period has an interesting history... embroiled in religion & politics. The style is a refined version of the previous period. As wealth grew so did customers desire for more ornate decorative objects.
Attributes that define the style include:
  • Inverted trumpet turnings on the legs
  • Single drop or pendant pulls on the drawers
  • stretchers still low to the ground
  • Moving away from oak as primary wood
  • Use of veneer on case piece fronts
  • Chests with drawers
  • "Bun" feet
  • turned stretchers
  • bun feet giving away to flared feet
