Building a Cellarette with Ronnie Young

September 30, 2018

Ronnie Young, the 2016 recipient of the SAPFM "Cartouche Award" for lifetime achievement as a furniture builder, came to Mobile for a weekend to teach us the intricacies and provide tips on building a cellarette.

A cellarette is a furniture form that was initially a coopered container used to chill bottles, but evolved into a decorative arts piece by the mid 18th century. They were used to hold liquor and wine bottles in dining rooms. They became very ornate by the Federal period. This form was also something found more commonly in southern homes.
